"1.There is no treatment formula that will work for everyone. "

The # 1 point makes sense. I think it's within the patient if he/she really wants to change his/her life. No matter how effective the process is, a patient can't really change for the better if he/she can't control his/her addiction.

Hmmm...not sure what substance abuse programs you are looking at. Though confrontational programs exist, they are now far and away in the minority. The current thinking with co-occurring disorders is to treat both primary illnesses at the same time.

Treatment programs designed for people whose problems are primarily substance abuse are generally not recommended for people who also have a mental illness. These programs tend to be confrontive and coercive and most people with severe mental illnesses are too fragile to benefit from them. Heavy confrontation, intense emotional jolting, and discouragement of the use of medications tend to be detrimental. These treatments may produce levels of stress that exacerbate symptoms or cause relapse.

All of these apply to all forms of addiction and/or recovery. Very good points. For example, point number 2: this is very true, but not only of that aspect of treatment, but of all aspects. Many people take medication in the hope of instantly being cured, but there is so much more to it, and it still takes effort on your part.

"multidimensional problem" - this is also important to realize. Many people try to just treat the visible symptoms, and never treat the cause of the problem.. so it never really goes away.

"1.There is no treatment formula that will work for everyone."

That is EXTREMELY true and very important to remember, for any form of illness. Everyone is unique, and it's important to find the source of the problem and find treat that suits your own needs. Especially true for mental illnesses and addictions. In fact, I know a doctor who rarely diagnosis mental disorders, preferring to identify the individual's own symptoms, since no one experiences every symptom of a disease, and sometimes has others that aren't generally associated with it. He treats people's symptoms, rather than the disease they've been labeled with.

There are a lot of articles of articles around the net that aren’t true. We must always look for other means of finding the truth before we believe on anything that webmasters has to do. I like this posting because you have stated the where you have gotten them so that I could check it for myself.
