I think one of the key milestones of being in Addiction Recovery is when the realization hits that life does not have to be as it always was.
That moment of hope, that ray of light, which inspires the thought “I really can do this”, is truly the beginnings of the journey of Addiction recovery. When you move from the state of hopelessness into the state of hopefulness, that is when the miracle occurs. If you ever wonder how you’re doing or whether you are ‘getting it’ fast enough, just stop for a moment and reflect back where you were when you were engaged in your addiction. Are things better now? If the answer is yes, then you’re doing just fine. Remember it is progress not perfection. Don’t worry about how fast you’re addiction recovery is going just make sure is moving forward. The installation of hope in the beginnings of returning self-esteem by two of the most important gifts you receive from being in addiction recovery.

I think the fact that they are in addiction recovery is a huge step to begin. To me it really doesn’t matter how long they are in there as long as they get better. I think it is important to keep hope alive.
