While not everyone agrees with the concept of addiction as a disease, it is the most accepted view in the United States, and has been for years. Addiction is a brain disease, with identifiable symptoms, signs and progression. Still, the most important concept from a treatment view is the single concept "Is your continued use causing problems, and are you having trouble stopping?"
