brain addiction

This is a superb podcast that examines the question of ‘what is addiction?’ This is the modern view of addiction as a brain disease rather than a bad habit or moral failing. Features Dr Nora Volkoff, Director of the National Institure on Drug Abuse, Shelley Greenfield from Harvard Medical School, Dr Rob Melinka from Stanford University.

I can think of about 49839843 people that I would like to send this to. It amazes me that still, today, people cannot recognize this as a disease.

I’ve always looked at it similar to the cancer thing. Like, do you think someone would choose to have cancer? Do you think someone would choose to destroy their life, lose their home and job and families?

How insane to even consider the possibility.

I always knew that addiction had a lot to do with the brain. But I never knew it was an actual brain disease. I actually googled some of these images and it is pretty harsh what an addiction can do to one of the most vital parts of the human body.
