Here are some facts about alcoholism.
Alcoholism is defined as a dependence on alcohol and a loss of control towards regulating the consumption of alcohol once it has begun. This is a condition that affects people all over the world, regardless of age, race, sex or class and if has begun impacting your life, there are some important facts that you need to be made aware of. It is a serious problem, and it is one that can have an extremely negative effect on the lives of the people that it touches.
The craving that an alcoholic has for alcohol can be as strong as the need for food or water. Even when the negative effects of their condition are obvious and even if they realize that they are spiraling towards destruction, an alcoholic will often feel as though he or she cannot stop, no matter how much they might like to.
Alcoholism is chronic
It is important to realize that alcoholism is a condition that will last for a lifetime. A genetic predisposition towards alcoholism and the lifestyle of the person in question can make the situation worse, but it is a condition that can last through a person’s life. This means a certain amount of wariness and awareness of alcohol needs to be maintained by anyone who wants to stay healthy and in charge of their own life.
A tolerance to alcohol will begin to develop over time
Though the rate at which a tolerance will vary from person to person and situation to situation, it is clear that over time, an alcoholic will need to drink greater amounts of alcohol to get the desired results. As might be expected, this will take its toll both on the relationships and the body of the person in question.
Alcoholism will have an effect on your health
While a small amount of alcohol has been shown to be beneficial for the heart, this is due to the tannin that is red wine, rather than the alcohol itself. Alcohol, especially when consumed regularly and with an increasing amount over time will take its toll on the liver and kidneys.
Alcoholism affects more than just the alcoholic
Many people believe that the issues and problems that are related to their alcoholism are limited to themselves, but this is simply not true. An alcoholic’s family and friends will suffer as well, and the stress that the entire family unit may be under can be intense. An alcoholic can become unreliable, negligent of their duties and even violent towards the people that they care about.
The truth of the matter is that alcoholism is a serious problem that strike anywhere. If you or someone that you love is dealing with it, it is important to remember that help for alcoholism is out there and that there are solutions.

Alcoholism is a disease
Quite true. And I think no one would be cured from it if he or she would not admit that he or she is suffering from a chronic disease which is alcoholism.
If the alcholics would only accept the facts about their disease, do you think they’d have greater chances for recovery?

A great post,
I think that the notion of alcoholism, or any other addiction, being a chronic condition is very important.
Although 12-step groups use that to mean that regular attendance of meetings and step work is a must, I think that there are other options.
We know how to medically treat chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension, if the medical field stops looking at addiction as something that can have a ‘quick’ fix, we’ll make great strides.
Addiction to alcohol is a serious situation. Once alcohol become part of your system you will really look for it and want it more. It needs to be stop sooner but if you decide it later, you might have a hard time getting to recovery.
alcohol can absolutely provides negative effect to our mind and body. Thanks for the share.
