Bill,
Thank you so much for this article. I am doing a case study for school and this has helped show why I am looking at 3 generations of alcoholism and drug abuse. Also, I myself had an alcoholic mother and while I have refused to perpetuate the cycle, I can say that my sisters and I all react adversely to different forms of alcohol, including hallucinations and not being affected at all until we are very ill. Fortunately our father foresaw this as an issue and insisted we drink at home before we went off to college so we would know what we were dealing with. Please warn other readers, this cycle has more to it than just a preference toward alcohol. It affects how those children's bodies react to it, even into adulthood. Thank you again!

Hi Andrew,

My blog is just 3 or 4 years old and I have had over 500,000 spam comments. The worst spammers on the net are porn and people selling drugs from overseas 'drugstores'. Since their spam robots (mistakenly) think I sell drugs because of keywords used I get bombarded. I use the plugin Akismet and set a long list of drug words in the options box to trigger the spam filter ( as well as standard porn words) I just have to periodically empty out the spam filter. Also NEVER allow instant publication on your blog hold all comments for monitoring. I can be a little fussy about publishing comments that don't add to the blog.

Makes a lot of sense. Common sense tells you that what your Mother consumed when you were developing affects you after you're born. Alcohol consumption is definately something pregnant women need to think about.
