My girlfriend's father alcohol abuse falls to number 5 which is economic insecurity. He lost his job, and he can no longer be trusted because he has really poor financial decisions from now. He drinks too much wine, so alcoholic. And the worst truth is that he starts drinking alcoholic beverages early at dawn. He didn't listen to us. I don't know how are we going to help him.

Family members need to be wary of having any medications in the house that can trigger the cravings for the substance abuser. For this reason, family members can be limited in the drugs that they can take (even over-the-counter drugs) to medicate their own health issues, because they must always consider how it will affect the substance abuser if the medication is in the house. This concern even applies to keeping cooking ingredients in the house, such as cooking sherry.

Alcoholic relationships disintegrate upon close inspection. If pursued, family members will admit that none are entirely comfortable in their designated role. Moreover, if outside circumstances change, the alcoholic family is less able to adapt. Instead, if a crisis or alteration in the system occurs such as a death, birth, divorce, etc, the roles simply switch to accomodate the change. In other words, a child may have been a lost child in younger years, but may grow up to be a mascot when he/she leaves for college. Unfortunately, this switch which occurs to meet the family dynamic is often a shock to the one who now has a new role.

It is very common for dysfunctional families to deny the existence of any alcoholic problems. You'll find that they usually develop a number of different behaviors which gives them an illusion that drinking alcohol is not affecting their family. You'll also notice that they start telling lies saying they are working late when they are really stopping off at the pub for a drink. Once you start to learn that alcohol is causing you and your family a problem the quicker you can sort it out the better. You're not just hurting yourself when you drink, you're hurting the ones around you, who love you the most. In fact denial is one of the key systems of alcohol dependency (Alcoholism).

The alcoholic is never the only one suffering from alcoholism. It's a family disease and everyone In the home owns a role which keeps the alcoholic demise in the family and carries it on to future generations too. Because alcoholism tends to run in families, some believe it's a genetic thing, but others like me believe it's due to the alcoholic family way of doing things. Because of the dysfunction, the children yet to arrive on the scene are pre-destined to suffer through a life time of the alcoholic issues. It's a cycle of dysfunctional relating within family ties that keeps the disease of alcoholism alive. Family problems and issues will continue, unless just one mind is changed and family roles are rearranged.

Alcohol is a natural "depressant" and pouring large quantities of it into a person that already suffers from depression is also potentially dangerous. This person may become suicidal or things may be seemingly hopeless to them and they find themselves in the depths of despair. Also, a person that continues to drink regularly into their thirties may cause permanent damage to their sex organs. This can eventually cause men to become unable to achieve an erection.

Alcoholism poses lots of risks and dangers. The family members are not comfortable if the alcoholic doesn't come home on time. There is every possibility that he has been arrested for drunk-driving or for driving under the influence of alcohol. Alcoholism puts the family in a state of unrest and chaos. They start seeing themselves as easy targets and hence a complex a developed. The overall psyche and mental output of the family diminishes gradually.

Hi BILL UREL.

Your article is great. I'm sure this will help a lot of people out there.

I strongly agree with your points. Alcohol abuse as a matter of fact is usually one of the reasons that triggers problems to occur in the society especially in the family. I know a lot of people who broke up with their partners because of their being alcoholic.

There are so many things (the disastrous ones) that you can do when you are under the influence of alcohol. Like violence. And aside from that alcohol is also not good to our body. It also leads to accidents, road accidents to be specific, money problems and mny more.

I hope this will help make others realize the dangers they will be facing if they abuse taking alcoholic beverages .

Alcoholism also leads to money problems for the family. There may be job losses and poor financial decisions that put the family on shaky ground economically. The alcoholic family member may spend large amounts of the family's income on alcohol. Families dealing with alcoholism may not be able to afford many of the luxuries, and even some of the necessities, other families have available. In addition to these hits on finances, alcoholism often leads to legal fees, damages to the home or vehicles, health costs and lost work days.

The risks of alcohol abuse in relationships with children can be disastrous for child development. Young children often have nightmares and issues with bed wetting and feel responsible for the fights and yelling that accompany alcoholism. They are often tense and cry easily. Older children are often self-conscious and depressed, have trouble in school, and difficulty developing strong friendships and relationships. They are more apt to develop phobias and become alcoholics themselves due to the low self-image that propels their parents' alcoholism. Unstable home environments leads to early drug use, which in turn leads to a life of addiction.

Children who are bought up in alcoholic households tend to either become withdrawn, or turn to equally dramatic problem behavior as their alcoholic parent by turning to crime or emotional outbursts. Their behavior is their attempt to be noticed and heard above the ensuing noise from their parents. Because the alcoholic parent takes up so much time and energy of the other parent the children needs may be pushed onto the back-burner until a quieter time which ultimately, never arrives.
