Anxiety and Sleep Problems

By Mark Altman

passed_out1 I was recently discussing the subject of anxiety, stress, and sleep problems with a couple of my friends. All three of us had struggled with these issues and had experienced nervous breakdowns, stress leaves from work, anxiety medication and/or sleeping pills.

Today we are all living without medication, and have found our own unique ways of successfully dealing with stress and . Our conversation made me think of how different each of us is. My friends and I all discovered methods to reduce stress and anxiety, and all three of us ultimately found success using a different routine. This shouldn’t be too surprising, seeing that my friends and I all have different occupations, hobbies, family situations, body types, fitness levels, personalities, etc.

Some found that intense physical exertion was helpful, where others found success with lighter aerobic exercise. Meditation and aromatherapy was seen by some as a cure, and to others as boring and pointless. Unfortunately, the literature on [/tag-self] stress[tag-self] and sleep disorders generally offers the same advice for everyone, and rarely points out that there are no blanket remedies. If you don’t realize that stress and sleep remedies are individualistic, and may work better for some than for others, you may cause yourself a lot of frustration and (ironically) stress.

I’ve found most of the stress and remedy advice I’ve read on websites and in books to be helpful. At the same time, people should realize that only a small number of these tips may actually work for them. My advice would be to try a variety of exercises and methods for sleep and anxiety. If you find something works, stick with it, but if it is not helping, move on and try something else.

Don’t get frustrated if the first few methods you try don’t work for you. Remember, you are unique, and many of the stress and sleep tips you find may not be for you. Keep on searching and trying different methods, you’ll eventually come across a system that will work for you.

this is a very informative article. i have always believed that many things may work for us and not for other people. stress and anxiety are easy to prevent if we just try to know what are the causes of these. some relaxation techniques can really help but it is still best for us to know what may really work by trying out different ways on how to prevent it.

We can’t deny that some of us are stressed, add in anxiety and sleeplessness. I do agree with exerting it out on physical activities like aerobics, I myself hit the gym with a lively music to prevent you thinking on your problems. And after all the effort, you’d easily fall asleep. It’s just what you need, relaxation.

This was a great article and something I could relate to as a sufferer of sleep problems and insomnia. I too found that I had to try many things to overcome it from eating a banana half an hour before going to bed, to reading etc! the thing that worked for me too was exercise, I went to an aerobics class and a kick boxing class twice a week to overcome my sleep problem.

Sleep is very very important for a person. Only by sleeping, i will relieve my stress. Relaxation is necessary for everyone. Do not do any over time jobs and do not run behind money. People have become mechanical and now facing all the medical problems.

Maybe sleep problems and anxiety goes hand in hand. When we worry a lot about tomorrow’s activities, the work loads in the office, deadlines and so on so forth. It is night time, it is the time of the day to relax and leave our worries behind. Let our worries and deadlines be left in the office when we step out of the cubicle. Maybe that can help, stop worrying.

Interesting that you are all going through the same things. But great that you have have found a way to talk and deal with the issues that you are all going through. I think that often when we talk about things we discover ways of solving problem that we would not otherwise know exist.

Sleep is so very important to us and biggest curse is to have disordered sleep. I have seen my grandma go through sleepless nights, she used to beg doctors to help her out. Article above is quite appropriate and every idea given in it has a value.I am blessed I lie down in bed and doze off. Best is have a stress free day and sleep like a log.

I found deep sleep is the main cure for stress and anxiety. So how to get good sleep, is to either take sleeping peal or to do hard physical work or exercise. Alternatively, go to long drive. It’s really help.

Thanks for the information.

In my experience, I need physical exertion during the day to help me relax. If I stay the home and work on the computer the whole day, I find it very hard to get a good sleep. I think the physical work that I do helps me relax because of the deep breathing I get from get.

Sleep is so important, I find that I just am not effective if I haven’t had a full night of sleep. I really need the clear head and relaxed state of mind that you can only get from a full night of sleep.

If you have trouble sleeping at night…it may be because you are ‘taking your work to bed with you.’

Try stopping everything, one hour before bedtime. Just relax, meditate, or even doze off in the arm chair….for one hour.

Works great for me! I got off sleeping pills entirely!

Thank you very much Mark. Actually I became very much busy with my works. When I sleep, all my work that has not yet done just rounded on my head. Now I’m tired. I’m really tired. I need to escape from all of my work now.

Lack of sleep indeed is a problem that has to be dealt with.
You wrote a very interesting article. Yes, everyone is unique and not all methods can apply.

Interesting article. I believe joining a forum group can be very beneficial. It helps knowing other people have the same difficulties you do. Sharing experiences can help hugely too of course.

Stress will take years off your life. Anything you can do on a daily basis to help squeeze the stress out of your life. I try to breathe deep and focus on the positive things in my life when I get stressed out.

My husband suffers from sleep apnea and it was ruining his health and his ability to function. I was beginning to think he had alzheimers!

Three doctors simply shrugged it off when he told them about his problems. Thank goodness his current doctor sent him to get tested for sleep apnea. Sure enough, that was the problem and he was finally diagnosed, years later. Now that he is using a CPAP machine every night, he’s a different man!

So if you have sleep problems, don’t give up. Find a doctor that will listen to you and do something about it!

I find that if I go to the gym too late in the evening, I will have trouble sleeping as well. I guess I have a rush of adrenaline that stops me from having a good night of sleep.

I have postprandial somnolence or food comma. I was forced to go on a diet because of this. Whenever I’m full, I feel really sleep. And if I don’t sleep, I’d have migraines all day long.
