Vets suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, PTSD and substance abuse are a group that are especially deserving of help. Prowling around the net, I discovered this website and coalition whose purpose it is to make special help and support available to these deserving veterans who are serving our country.
If you or someone you know is a student veteran and struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including using substances to cope with symptoms, go to the Student Veterans of America (SVA).
Founded in 2008, SVA is a national coalition for military veterans on college campuses. The SVA “believes that all student veterans, including the severely injured, can learn lessons from each other’s experiences and struggles during their transition into higher education.” The national office will help connect student groups with resources, advocate at the state and national level for them, and bring them together in regional or national conferences. It will also provide free help to any vets who want to start a group on their college campus.

There’s no doubt that veterans, especially if they suffer from PTSD, often feel alienated when they return home. A support group dedicated to those who have turned to drugs is a wonderful resource. Thanks for sharing this Bill.
Hmm, this sounds rather interesting. I have a couple of friends who will be more than interested in participating at this support group, as they’re suffering from PTSD and aren’t really coping with it as they should.
Well, what can I say, I’ve never had PTSD. And I don’t recall anyone of my friends having it or knowing someone who suffers from it, but I’ll make sure to spread the news around. Cheers.
I’m afraid I don’t know anyone that suffers from PTSD, but this initiative is a laudable one, I can’t deny it. I’ll post it on my blog, see if anyone else might use the information.
