I am big on checklists and markers of progress in addiction recovery. I came across this list: if you cannot see many signs in your own life now, just check it in a couple months and you will see the positive signs of being in addiction recovery.

  1. We accept responsibility for attitudes, actions and behaviors
  2. We know the difference between needs and wants
  3. Start making choices to help ourselves and others
  4. Start living in reality and give up our fantasies of addictive thinking
  5. Become aware that failure is evidence of learning and progress
  6. Our sense of humor and laughter returns
  7. We can offer love and forgiveness to others, and more importantly, to ourselves
  8. Our ability to listen to others and hear what they say and mean returns
  9. We return to our sense of what is really important, our value system
  10. Our ability to make good, rational decisions returns
  11. We become positive about ourselves and become capable of sharing it.
  12. We set realistic goals, and initiate positive action to achieve them
  13. We become willing to admit and correct our mistakes promptly
  14. Have a conscious contact with our own Higher Power on a daily basis

There you have it, some sobriety tips and signs of progress in addiction recovery.
