I went to rehab for 4 months, and stay in Cocaine Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous and have stayed sober for 2 years now. My experience is treatment or 'rehab' addressess the symptoms but not the problem. It is a lifetime process, treatment helped me get sober, but AA's 12 steps help me stay sober, by treating the problem instead of its symptoms.

I was in rehab years ago, I went because I had a problem that I wanted help with. Not because it was expected of me. I didn't get out in three days and claim to be 'all cured.' It was a long rough treatment. When the treatment worked, then I left and was able to change my life, and not have to go back to rehab.
I think that celebarities (and politicians) use rehab as a quick fix for anything that goes wrong in their lives. They think that if they go to rehab for a few days (or a few weeks) then it at least appears that they are trying to fix the problems in their lives. Sadly though, all they do is cover up the problem, and 90% of the time they go right back to the same destructive behavior they had before.
