Such great information for addicts and families alike! We really agree with your recommendation about inpatient treatment for anyone with addiction and chemical dependency. It allows the addict to really focus on the immediate problem at hand while removing outside factors that may contribute to dependency and abuse. We also agree with the importance of a proper assessment upon entering in to a treatment program.

At The Recovery Place we focus on creating care plans that meet these assessed needs of the individual, rather than trying to make the patient fit the treatment. Regardless of inpatient, outpatient, dual diagnosis, family focused, Christian based, trauma recovery or any other type of program, we feel it’s vital to the success of our clients that we create a plan and atmosphere to meet the needs of each specific situation. For more information on different treatment options check out: http://www.therecoveryplace.net/treatment-programs.aspx

Unfortunately there aren't nearly enough residential beds available in the United States for those who need an effective drug rehab program. Up to 90 percent of addicts who receive some type of treatment each year attend outpatient counseling or meetings. In most cases, a longer-term residential rehab program (Inpatient Treatment) is going to produce better results. There are some scenarios where outpatient treatment is successful, given the type of program and the circumstances of the individual, but whenever possible a longer-term drug-free program is a better choice, especially if it addresses the biophysical aspects.

My first concern is how to actually get them to agree to go into rehab. My dad is an alcoholic and we have attempted in vain to get him to quit. He still insists he doesn't have a problem yet he ruined his life and destroyed his family.

Thanks for your support Chris. In the course of life I am always amazed at how many people are affected by addiction, be it themselves, loved ones or in the role of trying to help.

I used to un a drug and alcohol rehab in Western Australia in the mid 1980's. I know that it is possible for anyone to find freedom from their addictions and a new life.

Your site looks great and I wish you every success with it!
